The Grass is Greener for a Reason

It’s easy to love the family that expects nothing of you…the one that knows little about you.

As an adolescent, I was of the generation when I was always at one of my friends’ houses, hanging out with their family. I liked hanging out with their family a lot better because they were more fun and I never got scolded or reprimanded. It was more fun than hanging out at my house where my parents knew my shortcomings; they knew when I hadn’t done my chores or what was expected of me, or when I was trying to get away with something that I knew I shouldn’t. Food at my friends’ houses was always better…there were more snacks and more sweets.

Whether it’s an affair with another person, another family, another job, another car, another house, another church, etc – the grass is always greener on the other side. Never forget the commitment it takes to get it that way… loads of manure, the care, the weeding, the thatching, the aerating, the watering to get the lawn that luscious. Only the one who takes responsibility will put in that kind of work to get out of something that’s worth getting.

As a youngster, I benefited from the love and care those parents put into their children. That effort was not out of love for me but for them and the benefits were extended to their guests.

Being a guest is WAY DIFFERENT than being a member of the family. A guest who only receives will eventually wear out their welcome.

For each will have to bear his own load.Galatians 6:5
